Muñecas Marias aka Mexican Rag Dolls

Mexican rag dolls are traced back to Mexico City and were created to enhance income opportunities for the Mazahua-Otomi people after their migration to the larger city. The name is thought to originate in the State of Queretaro where they're called "Marias" and throughout the country they are called "Muñecas de trapo" (rag dolls) although Mexico has a long history of making rag dolls these cute looking dolls only originate back to the 1970's and made for the tourism industry.
